Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) Lining at Hillcrest Hospital: A Rehabilitation Case Study

Project details

The Problem

The hospital’s Maintenance Director reported recurring backups in the kitchen floor drains, resulting in sewer water surfacing onto the floor. Upon inspection, the issue was attributed to significant grease accumulation within the piping, along with sections of the system that were deteriorated due to corrosion. Floor drains were disintegrating causing smells in the kitchen and surrounding areas.

The Process

Coordinated closely with the kitchen supervisor to align project execution with their operational schedule, completing all work during overnight hours to prevent service disruptions and eliminate the need for external food service accommodations. Technicians then began with a thorough cleaning of the affected lines using high-pressured hydro jetting to remove heavy grease buildup and restore proper flow capacity. Once the system was prepared, NuFlow cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liner was installed.

The Solution

To address the drainage issues without extensive disruption to hospital operations, a trenchless pipe lining solution was recommended.  This method allowed for the rehabilitation of the existing piping system with minimal excavation and downtime.

Outcomes

Delivered a cost-avoidance solution that preserved hospital food service operations and eliminated the need for extensive structural renovations, resulting in an estimated savings of several hundred thousand to over one million dollars compared to traditional repair methods.
